Workshop Description:
Working with adult students with overt or hidden disabilities is always a challenge. In this workshop we will explore some mindsets, assessments, strategies and tools for working with students with disabilities, including learning disabilities.
Workshop Learning Objectives - Participants will be able to:

Define disability and inclusion, explore tools to identify disabilities.

Identify some common learning disabilities and look at some strategies and activities that can help students become self-actualized learners.

Examine case studies and share tools and strategies beneficial to your program.

Define Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and explore how it can be integrated into adult education programming.
Presenter:
Kelly Folsom: Kelly has taught HiSET/GED, college transition, and job readiness classes for X-Cel Education in Boston for the last 14 years. In 2018 he helped designed the Boston Common Accessibility Assessment Tool to assist programs in identifying students with hidden learning disabilities. He has worked with several students who have learning disabilities (or suspected learning disabilities) and recently, with two blind students studying to pass the HiSET.
This workshop is free to staff of all Massachusetts non-profit ABE and ESOL Programs.
